This is such a beautiful melody, but elusive lyric. To me he is saying that all his BIG plans for life never came to fruition. That he really was a man in the middle...never as big as his head thought he would be, but never truly make believe. Heros' are nothing but nebulae. The melody always brings a tear, though, and the fact that such a talent is taken from us too early. Listen to this song, then listen once more this time realizing that all you hear is him, except for the bass. Scarecrow's Dream Dan Fogelberg - acoustic guitars, harpsichord, electric piano, Arp string ensemble, high string guitars, sleigh bells, vocals Norbert Putnam - bass This man was a truly amazing lyricist and musician. I get discouraged because it seems that throughout my life, all of my favorite things seems to get taken away too soon. His death is very sad. Dave |
